I think you can be a hero in the trenches and a hero testifying before Congress. For the latter, the realities of the world tend to favor those that are photogenic, heteronormative (well, as much as you can be as a trans person :-) ), well-spoken, and well-heeled. But somebody can be all that and still be a hero.

So, I'm very much pro-hero. Every movement will have it's heroes, a few that are famous and most that are not. Naturally, the famous ones will be targets of hero worship, but that in and of itself does not mean anything.

I think the important thing is not whether somebody is the target of hero worship; that's just going to happen sometimes. The important thing is how they handle that worship, whether they let it go to their head or they accept it with gracious humility.

Quite right. In fact, given the dire economic and personal straits that have befallen many T people who've become "activists", I question the sanity of any T person who'd even want to become the "ultimate T leader". Go all over this country, in each state and mid-size or larger city, you'll find strong leaders who excel at playing a particular role. That is the hope and strength of this community, because the work to be done is the work of many people for many years to come. We need people working locally, state, Federal, running for office,. running companies, running political organizations and charities......and we have all of those, both now, and in the near future.

I know of at least one of those in Cobb County, by the way.

Very thoughtful post. I am trying to make myself available to those who are pushed aside, be a recognized face of the transgender to the community. I do what I can to spread the education to those around me.
I sent a message to the other email that I have for you at 'tava1', I am willing to do what I can for the cause down my way.
